Brace Yourselves: Congress is Back in Session Today
So, Congress returns from the August recess today with a loaded agenda before it can even get to tax reform. First up is Hurricane Harvey relief funds to help with the rebuilding of Texas. Next is DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. After that is whether to try again on repealing the Affordable Care Act.
And, of course there was the little plan to strip roughly $1 billion from the FEMA budget before Hurricane Harvey and now we have Hurricane Irma threatening Florida and the East Coast. Oh, and don't forget about raising the debt ceiling by Sept. 30. Got a scorecard handy? We may need one.
All of this is to say, that we must remain vigilant and ready to move. Let's start by making calls on behalf of the Dreamers, then FEMA and then work to save the ACA since the government has chosen not to promote it. Americans need health insurance.
By now, we all should have our congressional representatives on speed dial. Let's get those phone lines going. Let's use our voices to make a difference. We know it works; let's do this.
