Trying Week and The Worst for Houston Is To Come
Not sure where to begin this week. Between the actions of Donald Trump and the weather/lack of planning in Houston, there is too much to bemoan. But, there is also much to do.
First and foremost, do what you can to help the flood victims in Houston. Some of them have paid with their lives or livelihoods because of the city's lack of planning or zoning requirements. You should never build in flood plains... If you are looking for ways to help, Vox has a good article on things you can do.
As for Trump's pardon of Sheriff Arpaio in Arizona, well, Sally Yates said it best: "With his pardon pen, POTUS reveals his own contempt for our Constitution, our courts, and our founding principles of equality and justice."
While there isn't much we can do about a presidential pardon, we can hold Congress to the higher standard and insist our representatives value the rule of law and support it. This is key to Robert Mueller having the time needed to complete the Russia investigation.
And, let's not forget about the transgender military ban. Legalizing discrimination in this manner is simply wrong. Shall we make some calls?
