Remember, All Politics Is Local

Wow, it's almost June. Did everyone remember to take the weekend off and recharge those batteries? Given the news out of Washington, D.C., we needed to do so.

While the news reports coming out of D.C. are shocking and jaw dropping (Jared Kushner under FBI cloud and undisclosed Russia contacts), let's not lose sight of an important adage. All politics is local. And right now that means the Sixth Congressional District and health care.

This is crunch time for flipping the Sixth. Seriously. Have you knocked on doors? Made phone calls? Written postcards? Volunteered to help drive people to the polls? Remember, 159 board members plan to hit the streets to canvass on Saturday, June 10. If you want to join us, email goblue@159georgiatogether.com. We would love the company!

If you can't do Saturday, June 10, here is the campaign's information. Call and get involved.

  •  Chamblee office at 3652 Chamblee Dunwoody Road
  • Marietta office at 2501 E. Piedmont Road, Suite 116;
  • Roswell office at 555 Sun Valley Drive, Suite J4,
  • Sandy Springs, on 5852 Glenridge Drive, Suite 200, Bl dg 2.

The offices are open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday, noon-7 p.m. Let's go for it.

Have you sent in your absentee ballot? Made a plan for voting that includes the buddy system? And, did you mark on your calendar that early voting starts Tuesday, May 30, as in today?

Don't take the latest polls for granted. The GOP spent a lot of time and energy this weekend to preserve its stranglehold on the seat.

In other Georgia news (remember all politics is local), did you see about 720,000 more Georgians could go without health insurance if the current version of TrumpCare, or the AHCA, is enacted? The current house version will make Georgia sicker, a look at it county by county.

So, let's start calling our senators early and often. Remind them that all Georgians have pre-existing conditions by virtue of living. None of us are exempt. And the changes will impact us all. Remember lifetime coverage limits? Pre-existing conditions?
